Here are 3 books that I highly recommend by Florence Scovel Shinn. Florence speaks from her own experience siting stories of how being who you are and knowing how to play in the game of life affords you the life you are looking for. She occasionally will give reference to scriptures in the bible that pertain to her stories and give example of her wisdom.

A Course in Miracles is one of my all time favorites. What is most interesting and wonderful for me about the course is that in times that I am looking for an answer to a question in my life, I can get the book, say a small prayer that I will find the answer and open the book and what is on the page(s) where I opened it will give me a sense of peace and guidance to what I am seeking. All the answers to our questions can never come from another or a book, we have to experience them, internalize them and still this book has the power to know what I need at any time I go to it.
A Course in Miracles : Combined Volume by Helen Schucman / Hardcover / 1296 pages 2nd edition / Published 5/96. There are more reviews and comments on this book on the Amazon.com site.
"Conversations With God" is a series of 3 books that I highly recommend by Neale Donald Walsch. Neale's books are just that, his conversations with God. Whether or not you believe that God actually spoke to him, these books are full of very thoughtful topics and discussions. I do believe that God talks to us and that He did in fact have these conversations with Neale. You decide for your self.

Skipping Christmas by John Grisham - John Grisham turns a satirical eye on the overblown ritual of the festive holiday season, and the result is Skipping Christmas, a modest but funny novel about the tyranny of December 25. Grisham's story revolves around a typical middle-aged American couple, Luther and Nora Krank.
Until Today by Iyanla Vanzant - Paperback - Hardcover - Calendar - Daily Devotions for Spiritual Growth and Peace of Mind - I received this as a gift. It contains a page for each day. The book is broken into 12 months: Life, Love, Awareness, Acknowledgment, Acceptance, Forgiveness, Understanding, Faith, Trust, Worth, Service and Peace. I just started reading it and like my usual self, I just open it to any day and start reading. I skip around and happen upon passages that inspire and offer peace of mind in any situation. VIDEO/DVD
The Point! VHS Version DVD Version Starring: Ringo Starr,Dustin Hoffman, more Director: Fred Wolf Rated : Format: Color, Closed-captioned, Animated, NTSC, VHS Does everything have a point? That's the question posed by Harry Nilsson's 1971 pop parable. The Story told in song and narrate is about a well-rounded young boy named Oblio and his companion/dog, Arrow (remember the song "Me and My Arrow") who live in the Land of Point. Oblio and Arrow are banished to the Pointless forest by those who resent his pointlessness. The message is delivered with a grace and gentleness that elevates The Point far above most socially conscious '60s art. This video will appeal to adults and youngsters alike. More to the point, however, it'll capture the fancy of thoughtful youngsters who'll empathize with the little boy who finds points where he's told there are none, and concludes, "If everything has a point, well then I must have one, too."
A Room With a View VHS Version DVD Version Rated : NR The prestigious film-making trio of producer Ismail Merchant, director James Ivory, and screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala had made other critically acclaimed films before A Room with a View was released in 1985, but it was this popular film that made them art-house superstars. Splendidly adapted from the novel by E.M. Forster, it's a comedy of the heart, a passionate romance and a study of repression within the British class system of manners and mores. It's that system of rigid behavior that prevents young Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham Carter) from accepting the loving advances of a free-spirited suitor (Julian Sands), who fears that she will follow through with her engagement to a priggish intellectual (Daniel Day-Lewis) whose capacity for passion is virtually nonexistent.
Amelie - VHS Version with English Subtitle DVD Version Rated : One of the 10 most charming movies of all time. The title character (the bashful and impish Audrey Tautou) is a single waitress who decides to help other lonely people fix their lives.
Harold and Maude VHS Version DVD Version Rated : Black comedies dont come much blacker than this cult favorite from 1972, and they dont come much funnier, either. It seemed that director Hal Ashby was the perfect choice to mine a mother lode of eccentricity from the original script by Colin Higgins, about the unlikely romance between a deathobsessed 19yearold named Harold (Bud Cort) and a lifeloving 79yearold widow named Maude (Ruth Gordon). They meet at a funeral, and Maude finds something oddly appealing about Harold, urging him to reach outּ and grab life by the lapels as opposed to dwelling morbidly on mortality. Harold grows fond of the old galshe's a lot more fun than the girls his mother desperately matches him up withand together they make Harold & Maude one of the sweetest and most unconventional love stories ever made. Much of the earlier humor arises from Harolds outrageous suicide fantasies, played out as a kind of twisted parlor game to mortify his mother, whos grown immune to her strange son's antics. Gradually, however, the films clever humor shifts to a brighter outlook and finally arrives at a point where Harold is truly happy to be alive. Featuring soundtrack songs by Cat Stevens, this comedy certainly wont appeal to all tastes (it was a boxoffice flop when first released), but if youre on its quirky wavelength, it might just strike you as one of the funniest movies you've ever seen. Jeff Shannon
Sordid Lives VHS Version DVD Version Rated : "A Black Comedy about White Trash" is the tag line on the jacket cover. My wife and I and about three-fourths of my family first saw this comedy in a little theater in Laguna Beach, CA. about 9 months before its release and again about a month later. We are adding it to our permanent collection. We think it is hysterical. Imagine Delta Burke (Noleta Netercot)) as the queen of a Texas trailer court type neighborhood, Olivia Newton-John (Bitsy Mase Harling) as a lesbian folk singer and Beau Brdges (G.W. Nethercot) as a pathetic loser surrounded by a highly dysfunctionalthat group of friends and family. Bonnie Bedelia (Latrelle Williamson) is more concerned about what her dead mother should be wearing for her funeral than dealing with her son Kirk Geiger (Ty Williamson, a guy TV soap actor) who has returned to Texas to tell her and the family that he is gay. Appearently, Latrelle's mother died when she tripped over G.W.'s prosthetic leg and hit her head on the bathroom sink in a cheap hotel room where they were doing the nasty. There are many other great characters that all make this a wonderful tale of sordid lives that will leave you somewhere between horrified and laughing out load.

Teaser & The Firecat - [Original Recording Remastered] ~ by Cat Stevens (Audio CD)
This is one of my all time favorites. This is the album that contains the song Tuesdays Dead If I make a mark in time, I cant say the mark is mine, I won't need to underline all the words, Im like him, just like you, I cant tell you what to do, Like everybody else, Im searchin through, What Ive Heard
The Point! (Deluxe Packaging) [Original Recording Remastered] [Extra Tracks] by Harry Nilsson Does everything have a point? Thats the question posed by Harry Nilssons 1971 pop parable. The Story told in song and narrative is about a wellrounded young boy named Oblio and his companion/dog, Arrow (remember the song Me and My Arrow) who live in the Land of Point. Oblio and Arrow are banished to the Pointless forest by those who resent his pointlessness. The message is delivered with a grace and gentleness that elevates The Point far above most socially conscious 60s art. Produced as a madeforTV movie in 1971, this audio version of the modest masterpiece will appeal to wide range of listeners. More to the point, however, itll capture the fancy of thoughtful youngsters wholl empathize with the little boy who finds points where hes told there are none, and concludes, If everything has a point, well then I must have one, too.
Graceland Paul Simons great sensibility and a melding of South African styles, with the magic of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, made this album one of the great hits of the 80s. One of my favorites of Pauls, not a bad cut on it. A mix of wit, social comment and humor with songs like I Know What I Know, Diamonds on the soles of her shoes and the fable-like You Can Call Me Al. Also the spiritual, meditative quality of Homeless.
Rhythm of the Saints A Great collaborative effort in this meeting of Simons style with Brazilian music. His quirky, introspective lyrics are front and center; set to the beat of multiple drummers, the effect is soothing and rich. The Coast is a brilliant narrative about traveling musicians and The Obvious Child handles Simons neurotic obsession with middle age with a lightheartedness unheard in his 70s solo work. It will have you tappin your feet and singing along.
